A spokesperson for the United Nations Office for Human Rights said on the 5th (local time) that the murder in the small town of Bucha, which was occupied by the Russian military, appears to have been aimed directly at civilians.

Spokesperson Liz Trossel said at a video press briefing at the UN’s Geneva office that the photos of the corpse were “very shocking”, AFP news agency reported.

“It could be argued in a military context, such as a building strike, but it’s difficult to call it a military context when there are bodies shot in the head or burned in the street,” he said.

“Every trace indicates that the victims were directly targeted and killed,” he said.

Ukrainian authorities are claiming evidence of genocide, claiming that hundreds of civilian bodies were recovered from areas occupied by Russian forces, such as Bucha.

Russia, however, denies the allegations that the civilian massacre disclosed by the Ukrainian government was fabricated to slander Russia.

Meanwhile, as the war continued, it was estimated that more than 7 million domestic refugees had fled their internal residences in Ukraine.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), there are 7.1 million refugees in Ukraine.

At the same time, the number of refugees who fled abroad was estimated at 4.2 million.

“People continue to leave their homes because of the war,” IOM Director-General Antonio Vitorino said in a statement.
