(MHN Sports Correspondent Geum Yun-ho) The Polish referee blows the whistle at the long-awaited 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.
FIFA officially announced on the 16th (Korea time) that Polish referee Simon Marciniak will serve as the referee for the Qatar World Cup final. This is the first time that a referee from Poland has been assigned to referee a World Cup final.
Referee Marchiniak, who started his career as a Polish professional football referee in 2009, has been playing as an international referee since 2011. Marciniak, who took part as a referee for the second consecutive World Cup following the tournament in Russia 2018, was responsible for the group match between France and Denmark and the round of 16 tournament match Argentina-Australia in the Qatar tournament. In both games, referee Marciniak only gave 5 yellow cards and none of the penalties were awarded.
The Qatar World Cup final between Argentina and France, refereed by Marciniak, will be held at the Lusail Stadium at 0:00am on the 19th (Monday).
