[유럽증시] Slight rise despite announcement of gas supply cessation to Russia

(Paris = Yonhap News) Correspondent Hyeran Hyun = Stock markets in major European countries closed slightly higher on the 27th (local time) despite Russia’s announcement of a halt to European gas supply.

The London Stock Exchange’s FTSE 100 index closed at 7,425.61, up 0.53% from the closing price of the previous trading day.

The CAC 40 index of the Paris stock market rose 0.48 percent to 6,445.26, and the DAX 30 index of the Frankfurt stock market rose 0.27 percent to 13,793.94.

The pan-European Euro Stoxx 50 index also rose 0.36% to 3,734.64.

The Paris and Frankfurt stock markets turned lower after Russia announced it would stop supplying gas to some European countries, but then turned around at the last minute, AFP news agency reported.

Craig Erlam, an analyst at OANDA, a US foreign exchange brokerage firm, said, “The market shows little signs of recovery, but there are still many unsettling factors.”

“Using gas as a weapon has long been considered a last resort that will not materialize,” Erlam said. said

Russia’s state-owned gas company, Gazprom, said it would stop supplying gas to Poland and Bulgaria, which do not pay gas prices in the Russian ruble.

Poland and Bulgaria are EU member states that impose various sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine and are also members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
