[인터뷰][Y터뷰①] Director Yeon Sang-ho “‘Hell’ Netflix World No. 1? bewildered”

Director Yeon Sang-ho, who directed the Netflix original series ‘Hell’, shared his thoughts on the global box office craze.

Netflix’s ‘Hell’, which was released on the 19th, is receiving a lot of attention around the world as it rises to the top in one day after its release, unlike ‘Squid Game’, which ranked first in the global rankings in 8 days. Since then, it is expected that it will be able to write a new history of long-term box office success by maintaining the top spot on Netflix worldwide for four consecutive days.

While ‘Hell’ is attracting attention as the most interesting work in the second half of the year, YTN star held a video interview with director Yeon Sang-ho who directed ‘Hell’ on the 25th to discuss various stories related to the work.

On this day, director Yeon confessed that he was unexpectedly and embarrassed about the box office storm of ‘Hell’.

He said, “I don’t think it’s a story that satisfies the general public, so I planned it with the idea of ​​targeting a core target who can like this genre. So personally, I thought it would be good to start in 2nd place in Korea.”

However, when I saw the work ranked number one in the world on the first day of its release, I remembered the time when I was bewildered, saying, “I was not awake and wanted to know what was going on.”

Director Yeon continued, “Actually, I couldn’t find all the responses because I was so engrossed in filming my next project. Most of the time, they only hear the reactions from those around them. I think it would be good to have a lot of discourse through this work. I’m happy because it seems like a lot of stories are coming out,” he said calmly.

He said, “I think it is a very precious fortune to receive a lot of love in a short time. But rather than savoring this, I want to make the next work with sincerity. I am working with the thought that I want to give the audience a sense of betrayal in the next work.”

Meanwhile, ‘Hell’ depicts the story of a supernatural phenomenon in which people are sentenced to hell by the messengers of hell who appeared without notice, and the religious organization Saejinrihoe, which was revived in this chaos, and those trying to uncover the truth of the incident are intertwined. It is a trilogy Netflix original series.

Yoo Ah-in, Kim Hyeon-joo, Park Jung-min, Kim Do-yoon, Kim Shin-rok, and other actors and director Yeon Sang-ho, who has been recognized for his directing skills through ‘The King of Pigs’, ‘Pseudo’, and ‘Train to Busan’, are gaining popularity since the release.
