[전국]Kilometers of communication lines connected between mountains to help one cancer patient

A cancer patient has gone into a deep mountain for recuperation, but in an area where cell phones are out of reach, it must be difficult.

A telecommunication company opened a communication line for several kilometers for cancer patients, so that even if you suddenly feel ill, you can ask for help from those around you.

Jeong Soon-gi, a 68-year-old grandmother, was diagnosed with blood cancer three years ago.

In October of last year, after completing chemotherapy, I came to the deep mountains of Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province for recuperation.

However, there was one problem, that this place is a mobile phone service area.

Even in an emergency, I had to walk a long way down the mountain to make a phone call, which was practically impossible for Grandma Jung, who was ill.

[정순기 / 혈액암 환자 : 진짜 많이 울었어요. 무섭기도 하고 전화도 안 터지고 전화라도 터지면 신랑한테 연락이라도 하는 데 앞을 내다보면 너무 적막하고 맨날 울고….]

Last year, I contacted the telecommunication company several times to solve the mobile phone shadow area, but each time the answer was that it was difficult.

However, last June, I called again without much expectation, and this time, the customer center staff actively responded.

After hearing Grandma Jung’s difficult situation, I specifically requested the company to conduct an on-site inspection.

With the help of KEPCO, the telecommunication company that started the due diligence started construction of a telecommunication line from the entrance to the village at the foot of the mountain to Grandma Jung’s farmhouse.

It was a construction project to connect communication lines for several kilometers using as many as 28 telephone poles for one customer.

At the end of the construction, the mobile phone shadow area has been removed, so Grandma Jung can now ask for help even in an emergency.

With the valuable efforts and sincerity of the telecommunication company employees, the elderly in remote areas are relieved of their worries.
