[전국]Semiconductor manufacturing life water ‘ultra-pure water’ to be localized

Today (28th) is ‘Semiconductor Day’.

Japan’s export restrictions in 2019 reminded me that foreign-dependent technology can always be a pawn in a trade war.

Like Foshan in the past, there is water called ‘ultra-pure water’ among the things that our semiconductor companies are 100% dependent on foreign countries.

The work to localize it has begun.

Impurities in the semiconductor or display process lead to defective products.

So, when diluting chemicals or cleaning, high-purity water is required.

The water used at this time, with almost no impurities, is called ‘ultra-pure water’.

About 1 liter of ultrapure water is required to wash one 12-inch wafer.

Since a large amount of ultrapure water is required for the manufacturing process, each semiconductor plant complex has its own production facility.

This water is ultrapure water.

Both Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix depend on foreign countries for plant design and parts to produce this ultrapure water.

Most of them are Japanese companies.

Technological independence is being promoted to prevent ultrapure water manufacturing parts and equipment from becoming a strategic commodity in a trade war, such as in the recent Foshan incident.

The goal is to “completely localize ultra-pure water” by 2025, designing, constructing, and even operating an ultra-pure water production facility using parts developed by our company.

An ultrapure water demonstration production facility will also be built next year.

Domestic companies plan to test the quality by using the ultrapure water produced there for actual semiconductor manufacturing.
