President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol’s side is continuing working-level discussions with the Ministry of National Defense to relocate the Oval Office.

The discussion is ongoing without the move of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, which the Blue House expressed concern about, and it is interesting to see what conclusions will be drawn from the working-level discussions between the Blue House and the President-elect Yoon.

The problem of relocating the presidential office to the Ministry of National Defense, which led to clashes between old and new powers.

The never-ending conflict found a clue to a solution as President Moon Jae-in and elected Yoon Seok-yeol met with difficulty.

The Blue House is known to have previously expressed its intention to cooperate as long as it does not impede security.

However, it is said that they are still concerned about the relocation of key departments of the Ministry of National Defense to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and some departments of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Accordingly, the task force before the Blue House relocation and the Ministry of National Defense are first discussing matters excluding the relocation of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The issues include the remodeling of the Army Chief of Staff’s residence to be used as the presidential residence and the plan to relocate the Ministry of National Defense annex to which some departments of the Ministry of National Defense will be relocated.

The TF plans to prepare a new budget for the relocation of the Oval Office after discussion with the Ministry of National Defense and the Presidential Security Service.

In this regard, President-elect Yoon’s side is planning to go to working-level discussions with the Blue House soon, and there is a possibility that a newly prepared budget will be dealt with in the process.

[김은혜 / 대통령 당선인 대변인 : 서로가 확인했던 신뢰관계 속에서 앞으로 협조의 틀을 유지해간다는 그 말씀을 믿고 앞으로도 진행해 나가겠다….]

With friction still lingering over personnel rights issues, it is unclear whether the old and new powers will be able to settle the issue of relocating the office as soon as possible.
