One last Korean citizen and three mission officials left in Afghanistan safely evacuated.

Following the temporary closure of the diplomatic missions due to the Taliban’s takeover of power, the South Korean government’s support plan, which has been involved in the reconstruction of Afghanistan for nearly 20 years, is likely to be significantly revised.

This is reporter Lee Kyo-jun’s report.

A military transport plane carrying Afghan citizens and government officials took off from Kabul Airport and arrived safely in a third country.

The last one remaining Korean citizen and three embassy staff including Ambassador Choi Tae-ho, who supported this Korean citizen, have all withdrawn.

Thousands of people were once paralyzed on the runways of Kabul Airport, but airport operations have managed to normalize and evacuation is possible.

The last Korean resident in Afghanistan was self-employed and was advised to withdraw from last June, but it is said that he hesitated to make a decision.

As the Afghan embassy is temporarily closed, related work will be temporarily performed by the embassy in Qatar for the time being.

The government is still cautious about establishing diplomatic relations with the Taliban regime and plans for future support.

Since 1991, the government has been supporting Afghanistan with a budget of over 1 billion dollars, including support through international organizations such as the United Nations, to rebuild Afghanistan.

The government plans to review support plans while closely monitoring the local situation in Afghanistan and international trends, but what kind of government the Taliban forces that have taken over Afghanistan will form will be the first criterion.
