[카타르 이야기]Is oil really cheaper than water in Qatar?

Qatar World Cup Statue. random newsI came to Qatar 11 years ago for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup. At the time, the most common saying in Qatar was, “Oil is cheaper than water in this town.”

When I came to Qatar this time, I heard so many questions about the same content from my friends.

As you know, Qatar is a country that lives on oil and natural gas. Qatar has 25.2 billion barrels of oil and 13% of the world’s natural gas reserves. It is understandable that the phrase ‘oil country’ is often used.

I was curious. So I asked the Uber driver.

The answer that came back was “Which oil?” According to the Uber article, Qatar’s oil is divided into gold, silver and diesel. Gold is premium gasoline, silver is commonly referred to as gasoline, and diesel is diesel.

After listening to the Uber driver’s explanation, I answered “money” and the answer that came back was “2 Saudis for 1 liter”. One sweater is about 370 won in our money. 2 Syrians are 740 won, so 1 liter of gasoline is 740 won. That is basically the price of crude oil.

On the 20th, at a gas station in Seoul, the indoor prices of diesel and kerosene, which are more expensive than gasoline, are 1,835 won and 1,650 won, respectively. Reporter Hwang Jin-hwanLooking at the price of Korean gasoline approaching 1,700 won, I really want to be sure that ‘oil soup’ is right. The price of gasoline is said to be similar to petrol.

Thanks to that, Uber is also cheaper. It is approximately 16 km from the accommodation to the Al Egla training ground where the national team train. If you use Uber, it costs around 23 rupees. In our money, about 9000 have been won. In Korea, 20,000 won is a distance.

Now let’s look at the price of water. I was wondering if oil was cheaper than water.

In conclusion, they are similar. If you go to a big market, water is a little cheaper than oil, but in a small market, a liter of water costs about 2 Saudis. However, at the stadium, 0.5 liters of water is sold for 10 Saudis, so it may be true that oil is cheaper than water.
