[포커스] Highest forecast for electricity use this summer… Worry about ‘blackout’

[앵커]
There is another concern caused by the rapid heat. As demand for electricity rises early, electricity consumption this year is certain to reach an all-time high. This summer, a record heat wave is also predicted, so the power supply and demand is urgent.

Today’s focus was on ‘the concern of blackout’ by Park Sang-hyun.

Last September 15, 2011. An unprecedented blackout event in which the reserve power fell to zero.

Factory operations stopped, elevators stopped, and South Korea was terrified.

At that time, 7.53 million households across the country were blacked out, and the amount of damage amounted to 62 billion won.

Then, in 2013, nuclear power plants were shut down and another electricity crisis came.

“This summer, an unprecedented power shortage is expected as the three nuclear power plants have to operate power supply and demand while standing.”

Every summer, electricity consumption soars, the power reserve ratio drops to single digits, and the red light on power supply and demand comes on.

The only way to turn is to control demand. Moreover, the situation is even more serious this year, when the worst heat wave in history is predicted.

Although the heat wave hasn’t started yet,

“I’ve already turned on the air conditioner. Buy some cool fruit juice or run away to a cafe with plenty of air conditioning.”

On the 23rd of last month, the electricity reserve ratio had already fallen to 9%, which is the midsummer level.

The government predicted that the reserve power would drop to the lowest level in five years in the second week of August amid the rainy season and heatwave.

“We’re talking about a heat wave coming this summer. It might be enough to say that the electricity supply is dangerous.”

Concerns are also being raised about the worst power shortage since 2013, when an emergency warning for power supply and demand was issued for the first time in 9 years.

It is pointed out that the aftermath of the previous administration’s nuclear disarmament also played a part in causing the electricity shortage. Renewable FeetThis is because they were unable to increase additional supply while reducing the operation of nuclear power plants for reasons of power generation.

Il-Jun Park / 2nd Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy
“Despite the expansion of the operation of nuclear power plants and the adjustment of the power generation facility schedule, it remained at the same level as last summer, so the electricity supply and demand conditions are not formidable…”

The fear of a blackout that repeats every year. We are attacking earlier and heavier than ever.
