It is controversial that more than 1,000 bodies of aborted fetuses were found in an apartment freezer in Hanoi, Vietnam.
According to Vietnam’s online media VN Express, Hanoi police, who were dispatched to reports that people were carrying black bags, found over 1,000 fetuses in a freezer in an apartment.
Police investigations revealed that the four suspects were activists in a group responsible for bringing aborted fetus bodies from hospitals or litter boxes to funerals.
They were known to have been storing the body of a fetus here because the funeral was too far away.
Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest abortion rates in the world, and as of 2018, 14 abortions were counted for every 100 births.
There are many factors behind Vietnam’s high abortion rate, but the local media reported that a social atmosphere that favors boys, lack of sex education, and taboo on premarital sex make young women criticized when they become pregnant outside of marriage.
