Even on weekends when the number of tests decreases, the number of new confirmed cases recorded 10,000, showing signs of a recent rebound in the epidemic.

Starting tomorrow (the 4th), applications for the sick and sick allowance pilot project will begin in 6 regions across the country.

Reporter Shin Sae-rom reports.

On the 2nd, there were 159 new confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Even on the weekend when the number of tests decreased, there were 10,000 confirmed cases for two days in a row, and the infection reproduction index also points to a rebound in the epidemic.

After the exemption of quarantine for inbound travelers and the expansion of international flights, the number of inbound cases also increased, recording a triple-digit number for the tenth day.

There were 53 severe cases in hospital and 8 deaths.

“It is predicted that it may rise to about 150,000 to 200,000. Even if a resurgence occurs (in the case of overseas), the fatality rate or mortality rate is not increasing that much.”

A pilot project for sickness and sickness allowances, in which the government provides income even if workers are unable to work due to unrelated diseases, etc., is also being implemented.

Those who live in six regions including Jongno-gu, Seoul, Bucheon, Gyeonggi, and Cheonan, Chungnam are eligible.

Although there are differences in waiting times and pay periods by region, you can apply for the application at the National Health Insurance Corporation website or the branch office with the required documents.

“We plan to pay 60% of the minimum wage during difficult working periods. In addition to supporting such income, we will make various efforts to improve employment relations and create a social atmosphere.”

The Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to design a sickness and sickness allowance system suitable for domestic conditions through a pilot project for the next three years, and then introduce it in earnest in 2025.
