| 11-year-old girl dies without treatment, father and imam arrested

Kannur: The father of an 11-year-old girl Fatima who died without receiving treatment in Kannur city and the church imam who practiced witchcraft have been arrested. Imam Uwais of Kunjipalli and Sathar, the father of the child, were arrested.

The initial conclusion was that the cause of death was an attempt to cure the fever through religious prayer without giving any scientific treatment despite the seriousness of the fever. Kannur City Police Commissioner R. Elango said that a case has been registered against the child’s father under the Juvenile Justice Act and against the Imam for involuntary manslaughter.

The family was not ready to take Fatima to the hospital, see a doctor or give her medicine. Instead, police said, Kunjipalli Imam Uwais chanted and performed the first treatment. The child had a high fever but did not receive any treatment for four days.

Ustad came and performed japa treatment when his health was very bad. The child was rushed to hospital after his death. The primary conclusion of the post-mortem report was that the cause of death was a lung infection. According to police, Sattar was unwilling to treat his daughter due to the influence of Imam Uwais.

Sattar’s father was arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act for failing to fulfill his responsibilities as a guardian. Since it is known that witchcraft has taken place, the relevant departments will be charged. Police said the girl had not been subjected to any other form of physical abuse and had not performed any such acts of witchcraft.

More complaints against Imam Uwais

Kannur: In connection with the death of an 11-year-old girl without getting treatment, the locals have lodged a further complaint against Kunjipally Imam Uwais. Uwais and his mother-in-law Shahiba, also known as Jinnumma, were the ones who attracted many to such superstitions. Their propaganda was that doctors were demons and that if they died in hospital they would go to hell. Uwais and Jinnumma have not been vaccinated. He also refused to vaccinate his family members. His wife also gave birth at home. They have never been hospitalized or vaccinated.

The police have started collecting information about the deaths in this family in the last few years. Siraj, a relative of Uwais and a public figure, told the media that Fatima had not been taken to hospital for three days after she developed a serious fever. Siraj says three members of his family have died as a result of witchcraft treatment led by Uwais. He was subjected to severe mental torture for opposing it. Locals said the move was aimed at isolating Siraj from his family and promoting him as a drug addict because of his opposition to pragmatic treatment and pressure to take the vaccine.

“My maternal niece’s son was injured in a car accident and was being treated at a hospital.

Police are investigating three previous deaths in the same family in the wake of Siraj’s revelations. These include the deaths of Siraj’s mother, Safia. Safia’s son Ashraf and sister Nafeesu are also alleged to be victims of fake treatment. In addition to Fatima, the locals allege that the Imam’s treatment was responsible for the death of Inchikal Anwar, a native of Kurua.

Uwais is the husband of Safia’s sister’s granddaughter. Siraj said that the Imam’s treatment was fasting and chanting water. The Special Branch had taken a statement from Siraj yesterday in the wake of Fatima’s death.
