(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Do-yeon = The government is tightening the reins in school quarantine, such as actively recommending children and adolescents to be vaccinated against COVID-19. there is

According to the Ministry of Education on the 1st, the average daily number of confirmed students was 356.9 from the 4th to the 10th of last month, 369.6 from November 11 to 17, and 446.3 from November 18 to 24, and the number is increasing every week.

In the case of 12 to 17-year-olds who are currently vaccinated, the number increased from 3,630 in September (6.1% of all confirmed cases) to 4,837 (9.1%) in October and 6,613 (8.0%) in October.

Of the confirmed children and adolescents, 18.1% were hospitalized, and 9 of them developed stomach or severe symptoms.

As the number of confirmed students increased, the Ministry of Education and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) urged adolescents to vaccinate their children, saying that the incidence of COVID-19 is low in grades with high vaccination rates.

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), the incidence rate is 2.1 per 100,000 population as of the fourth week of last month, lower than those in high school 1 (4.0) and high school 2 (4.9). Among 12-17 year olds, the incidence rate per 100,000 high school students 1 and 2 with a high vaccination rate was around 9 in the first week of last month, and then dropped to around 4 in the fourth week.

99.9% (2,986) of a total of 2,990 adolescents aged 12 to 17 who were confirmed in the last two weeks (November 7-20) did not complete the vaccination.

As a result of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), the risk of contracting COVID-19 among 16-18 year olds was 5.7 per 100,000, which was 4.8 times higher than that of vaccinated students (1.19 per 100,000). it was

The Ministry of Education and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) took additional advance reservations and extended the vaccination period until January 22, next year, in order to increase the vaccination rate of adolescents. The two weeks from the 13th to the 24th are designated as the ‘Intensive Vaccination Support Week’, and during this period, school-level vaccinations such as visits by the inoculation team at the public health center will be administered to the desired schools.

However, there are still concerns about the expansion of vaccination in the field.

The reporting rate of adverse reactions in the ongoing 12-17 year old vaccinations is 0.25%. General adverse reactions accounted for the majority (98.0%), with 32 suspected of anaphylaxis and 10 of myocarditis and pericarditis being investigated.

There are voices doubting the reliability of the vaccine itself, as well as opinions that whether or not to be vaccinated in schools can act as a stigma.

A parent from Gyeonggi Province who has a middle school child said, “I didn’t make a reservation because my child was anxious and didn’t want to get the shot, but many of my friends said that I might need to get vaccinated.”

As the number of confirmed cases of students increases, it seems that it will be a difficult time for all schools to continue returning to school for a month before most schools enter winter vacation at the end of this month.

This is because the spread of local infections is strong, with 5,123 new confirmed cases recorded on the same day, the highest on record, and there is a high possibility that the number of confirmed students will increase as students go to school.

Jung Eun-kyung, director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in a briefing with Yoo Eun-hye, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, on the same day, “We are well aware of parents’ anxiety and concerns, so we will do our best to ensure safe vaccination and prompt treatment in case of adverse reactions with the medical community.”

“The government strongly recommends that children and adolescents be vaccinated,” he said.
