15 years long search; In the end, the farmers got diamonds worth Rs 40 lakh

After 15 years of searching for government land on lease, the farmers are lucky. An 8.22 carat diamond worth Rs 40 lakh was found. Ratanlal Prajapati, a farmer, and his friends got the diamond from the Panna diamond mine in Madhya Pradesh.

The found diamond will be handed over to the government-controlled diamond office in Panna. The miners will get 11.5% tax on the proceeds from the auction on October 21. Last month, Prakash Majumdar, a farmer, received 6.47 carat diamonds from Panna. As of 2016, there are 952 mines in Panna. A total of 835 carat diamonds have been found so far. Apart from these, there are many illegal mines operating in Panna.

This place is one of the most famous diamond mining sites in India. Diamond mines have been operating here for decades. Apart from large scale mining projects, many people come here on their own and in droves to seek their fortunes. Many are trying their luck by leasing land from the government.
