1st generation folk singer Yang Byung-jip passed away in the 1970s

It was belatedly known that Yang Byung-jip (real name Yang Jun-jip), a ‘first-generation folk singer’ who dominated the 1970s, passed away on the 24th at his home in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. 70 years old. The deceased, along with Kim Min-ki (71) and Han Dae-soo (73), were called the ‘three major resistance singers’.

The deceased was interested in music enough to go to a famous music room, but he joined a securities company against his father’s opposition. One year after joining the company, he participated in a folk contest in the name of his younger brother, Kyungjip Yang, and won 3rd place. The song he sang at the time was Bob Dylan’s representative song ‘Reverse’, which he himself wrote the lyrics to for ‘Don’t think twice it’s all right’. The organizers misrepresented him as ‘Yang Byeong-jip’ at the awards ceremony, and it is said that he decided to use Yang Byeong-jip as his stage name.

About a month ago, the deceased also published an autobiographical novel, The Man Who Met Bob Dylan, in which he unraveled his musical journey that did not spare the ‘bitter’ to society with satirical lyrics.
