World No. 1 in men’s tennis, Novak Djokovic, who has not been vaccinated against COVID-19 has not been welcomed around the world.

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez held a press conference on the 17th (local time), stating that Djokovic must comply with Spanish health laws to enter the country.

Prime Minister Sanchez said this when he was asked if Djokovic, whose visa was revoked, could enter Spain.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is visiting Spain, also attended a press conference and said, “Even if the rules differ from country to country, we should respect them all.

Djokovic is a frequent visitor to Marbella, a resort town in southern Spain where he owns his home. He stayed at the home for several days at the end of last month and early this month, and training videos were also released.

Currently, Spain is legally required to have a certificate of vaccination or a negative PCR (gene amplification) test, and a certificate of recovery from COVID-19. Those who test positive will be subject to strict self-isolation measures.

Earlier, Djokovic was denied entry to the Australian Open because he had not been vaccinated.

It is expected that he will not be able to attend the tournament to be held in France in May. France recently introduced a strong vaccine pass legislation. Those who are not vaccinated will be restricted from public transportation as well as indoor access.

Meanwhile, Djokovic returned to his native Serbia after being denied entry to Australia. A crowd of people welcomed his arrival at Belgrade Airport.
