(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Gyuri Park = As the fourth wave of domestic novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) continues, the number of new confirmed cases on the 29th recorded the low 2,100 level.
As of 00:00 on the same day, the Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters announced that there were 2,124 new confirmed cases, bringing the total to 36536.

As social distancing measures were eased ahead of the ‘step-by-step recovery of daily life’ scheduled for next month, the number of confirmed cases, which had been declining for a while, turned to an increasing trend.
Jung Eun-kyung, head of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, explained in a briefing the previous day, “The recent easing of social distancing and an increase in the spread of person-to-person contact are affecting the recent increase in the number of confirmed cases.”
The authorities anticipate that foreigners and young people will flock to specific areas and facilities during ‘Halloween Day’ (31st), and are actively blocking the spread of infection by conducting special quarantine inspections.
