2020 Kerala State Film Awards; Suhasini becomes Jury Chairperson

Thiruvananthapuram: The 2020 Kerala State Film Awards will be decided by a committee chaired by director and actress Suhasini.

Director Bhadran and Kannada director P. Seshadri is the chairman of the sub-committee of the judging panel. Both are members of the Final Judging Committee.

In addition to these, the photographer V. Muraleedharan, music director Mohan Sithara, sound designer Harikumar Madhavan Nair, critic and screenwriter N. And Sasidharan are the other members of the committee.

Eighty films are in the competition this time. Four of these are children’s films.

Biju Menon, Fahad Fazil, Jayasurya, Indrans, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Tovino Thomas are vying for the Best Actor award while Shobhana, Anna Ben, Nimisha Sajayan, Parvathi Thiruvoth and Samyuktha Menon are vying for the Best Actress award.

Two films each by six directors – Mahesh Narayan, Siddharth Siva, Geo Baby, Ashok R. Nath, Siddique Paravur and Don Palathara – are vying for the award.

The director is considering Sachi for the Best Director and Best Screenplay award for his film ‘Ayyappan and Koshy’. If received, it will be a posthumous honor.

Mahesh Narayanan is also vying for the Best Director award for ‘Malik’ and ‘See You Soon’. The ‘See You Soon’ editing award is also likely to be considered.

Shyamaprasad’s ‘Sea of ​​Qasim’, Dr. Biju’s ‘Orange Tree House’ and Harikumar’s ‘Jwalamukhi’ have also appeared before the award jury. Actress Surabhi Lakshmi has done well in Jwalamukhi.

It is hoped that M. Jayachandran and Jacques Bijoy will be considered for the Best Music Director competition for the music for ‘Ayyappan and Koshy’ with ‘Sufi and Sujatha’. The music of both the films had garnered a lot of attention.

Theaters were closed during Kovid but the number of movies did not decrease significantly last year as they were released through OTT platforms.

The 80 preliminary entries will be judged by two preliminary juries. From these, they will be shortlisted for the second round and will be shortlisted for the Final Jury Award.

The chairmen of the preliminary jury will also be members of the final jury. Screening began Tuesday morning.
