This year’s K-League MVP was awarded to defender Hong Jeong-ho, who led Jeonbuk Hyundai’s 5th consecutive victory.
The Korea Professional Football Federation held the ‘Hana One Q K League 1 2021 Grand Prize Awards Ceremony’ at the Swiss Grand Hotel in Hongeun-dong, Seoul on the 7th.
Defender Hong Jeong-ho was selected as the MVP for the first time in 24 years.
Hong Jeong-ho took the top spot in defense-related data such as 50 interceptions (2nd place) and 85 clears (9th place) in the defensive area, and is evaluated to have successfully led Jeonbuk by filling the position of leader Lee Dong-guk left.
Hong Jung-ho said, “I didn’t expect to be able to receive the MVP because I was a defender. We will continue to work hard to become a wall in Jeollabuk-do.”
The Achievement Award was awarded to Pohang Steelers’ Oh Beom-seok, who had played for 19 years.
Oh Beom-seok said, “I received a meaningful award at the end of my career,” and said, “I am grateful to the K-League, which has made me able to play soccer well for the past 19 years.”
Oh Beom-seok joined Pohang in 2003 and started his career as a player. He is a veteran among the veterans who played 397 matches in the K-League. Oh Beom-seok finished his professional career in the final round of 38 against Seoul.
New defender Seol Young-woo (Ulsan Hyundai) won the Young Player Award. Director Kim Sang-sik of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors won the Best Director award.
Best Eleven includes Hyunwoo Cho (Ulsan Hyundai), Sangwoo Kang (Pohang Steelers), Bluetooth (Ulsan Hyundai), Kije Lee (Samsung Suwon), Jeongho Hong (Hyundai Jeonbuk), Baco (Ulsan Hyundai), Sejinya (Daegu FC), and Dongjun Lee ( Ulsan Hyundai), Im Sang-hyeop (Pohang Steelers), Ras (Suwon FC), and Jumin-gyu (Jeju United) rose.
