Apple currently includes organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays in the iPhone and Apple Watch, but there have been constant rumors of plans to expand the range of devices with them.
Sources from the supply chain side have indicated that Apple plans to equip iPads and MacBooks with OLED display panels.
2024 iPad Pro and 2026 MacBook Pro with OLED display?
According to IT News Korea, Apple has asked a Korean display company to develop two types of OLED panels for the iPad and two types of OLED panels for the MacBook.
The specific panel types are 10.86-inch and 12.9-inch for iPad, 14-inch and 16-inch for MacBook, 10.86-inch and 12.9-inch displays are the same size as the current iPad Pro, and 14- inch and 16-inch displays the same as the display size of the current MacBook Pro.
South Korean display companies and related parts and materials companies have started developing panels along with the start of the official project. That’s it.
There is no specific company that has been asked to develop it, but it is likely that Samsung Display and LG Display will supply the OLED display panel used in the iPad in the future.
Display analyst and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants Ross Young reports that the 2024 versions of the MacBook Air and iPad Pro will be Apple’s first laptops and tablets with OLED displays.
Young also previously reported that Apple is working on iPad Pros with 11.1-inch and 13-inch OLED displays, which will launch in the first quarter of 2024, and the displays could be larger.
