Thiruvananthapuram – The central government urgently needs the money for the rice allocated to Kerala during the floods. The prime minister signed the file to pay the money in line with the suggestion that the amount will be recovered from next year’s subsidy. 205.81 crores to be paid to the Centre.

During the 2018 floods, 89,540 metric tonnes of rice was supplied to Kerala through FCI. The central government has suggested that the bill amount of Rs 205.81 crore should be paid immediately.

Officials said the state government has asked not to charge for flood mitigation. The application was rejected by the Centre. Union Food Minister Piyush Goyal has written to the Prime Minister that if the money is not returned, recovery will be required. The Center has also demanded money for the helicopter that was used for rescue operations during the floods.
