3 more imported cases of imported Nigerian male infected with Omicron in Hong Kong become the third case

[Report from Sing Tao Daily]The Centre for Health Protection announced that there have been 3 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. So far, the total number of cases in Hong Kong has been 12,431.

The new cases are all imported cases, all involving the infection of mutant virus strains. The case involved two men and a woman, aged between 42 and 73. One person arrived in Hong Kong from a designated area in Group A (high risk), and two arrived in Hong Kong from a designated area in Group B (medium risk).

Case 12434, the 73-year-old man was a close contact of the earlier imported case (case 12429). He arrived in Hong Kong via flight EK384 from India and the UAE on November 21. He stayed at the Regal Airport Hotel and was diagnosed at the Penny’s Bay Quarantine Center. November He became ill on the 27th and received two doses of Covishield vaccine in India in March and April.

The 12435, 69-year-old woman in the case was a close contact of the earlier imported case (Case 12431). She arrived in Hong Kong from Canada via flight CX829 on November 24. She had stayed at the Metropark Hotel in Kowloon and became unwell at the Penny’s Bay Quarantine Center. A sample taken from the hospital later tested positive. She received two doses of Fubital vaccine in Canada in May and July.

Case 12,436, a 42-year-old male crew member, arrived in Hong Kong from Finland and Singapore via flight AY101 on November 28, and the test result of “test pending” at the temporary sample collection center of Hong Kong Airport was positive. He received two doses of Fubital vaccine in Finland in June and August.

A total of 46 cases were reported in the past 14 days (November 15-28), all of which were imported cases.

In addition, the center reported on the investigation progress of the previously confirmed imported case 12432. The 37-year-old male patient arrived in Hong Kong from Nigeria via Ethiopia on flight ET608 on November 24. The test result at the Hong Kong Airport Temporary Sample Collection Center was presented when he arrived in Hong Kong. feminine. He was subsequently diagnosed during the compulsory quarantine at the designated quarantine hotel on November 26 (the third day), and his sample Ct value was 27 to 29. The Ct value of the sample taken again on November 27 after the patient was admitted to the hospital was about 20, indicating that he had recently been infected outside of Hong Kong.

According to the whole-genome sequencing analysis conducted by the Public Health Laboratory Service Division of the Department of Health, it was confirmed that the case contained the mutant virus strain Omicron of concern. Together with the two imported cases (12388 and 12404) with Omicron announced earlier, a total of three related cases have been recorded in Hong Kong so far. The center will continue to closely monitor and follow up the latest development of the mutant virus strain, and will adopt the most stringent epidemic prevention measures to prevent the mutant virus strain from flowing into the local community.
