The Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters announced that as of 00:00 on the 31st, the number of new confirmed cases increased by 328,743, bringing the total to 13,095631.

The number fell by 103,898 from the previous day (42,641) when it recorded 400,000, and fell again to 300,000 in one day. The government believes that the Omicron epidemic is slowly turning to a decline after peaking.

It was 74,789 fewer than the 24th (395,532 people) a week ago, and 30445 fewer than the 17th (621,188) two weeks ago, when the highest number of confirmed cases was recorded.

However, it is analyzed that the number of severe cases and deaths has not yet reached its peak. The total number of patients with severe serious illness on this day stood at 1,315, breaking the record high following the previous day (1301). From the 27th (1216 people), the number of patients with severe severe disease, which remained at 1200 for three days in a row, rose to 1,300 from the previous day.

The number of deaths the day before was 375, down by 57 from the previous day (432). In the past week, the number of deaths per day was 393 → 323 → 282 → 287 → 237 → 432 → 375, an average of 333.

Looking at the 375 deaths by age, those over 80 years of age accounted for the most with 233 (62.1%). 86 people in their 70s, 33 people in their 60s, 14 people in their 50s, 5 people in their 40s, 3 people in their 30s, and 1 in their 20s.

The cumulative death toll was 16,230, and the cumulative fatality rate was 0.12%.

The overall number of confirmed cases is decreasing, but it is difficult to be relieved. Stealth Omicron (BA.2), which has 30-50% stronger propagation power than existing Omicron, has established itself as the dominant species in Korea, and it is predicted that the period of large-scale outbreaks may be prolonged.

The proportion of confirmed patients in their 60s and older who are at high risk of aggravation is increasing, putting a burden on the medical system.

The government is planning to hold a face-to-face meeting with the Daily Recovery Support Committee on the same day to coordinate measures to ease the distance, and announce a new distance adjustment plan to be applied from next week on the 1st, one day later.
