The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 28th that it had completed the formation of the National Funeral Committee for President Roh.

The funeral committee is composed of a total of 352 funeral members in consideration of the quarantine status of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the Ministry of Public Administration and Security explained.

The number of funeral members was 1,383 under former President Roh Moo-hyun’s national funeral and 2,371 under former President Kim Dae-jung’s funeral service.

The funeral committee included high-ranking public officials from the legislative, judicial and administrative departments, the heads of local governments, and persons recommended by the broadcasting media and bereaved families.

Prime Minister Bu-gyeom Kim is in charge of the national funeral chairperson, and advisors are composed of 5 departments, representatives of political parties, and representatives of religious organizations.

The vice-chairmen are Kim Sang-hee and Jeong Jin-seok, vice-chairmen of the National Assembly, Kang Min-ah, acting chief of the Board of Audit and Inspection, and Kwon Young-jin, mayor of Daegu Metropolitan City. As recommended by the bereaved family, former chief of staff Jeong Hae-chang and former chief of security Choi Seok-rip were named.

Also included in the list of funeral committee members for the bereaved family are former lawmakers Heo Sam-soo and Heo Hwa-pyeong, who were called ‘fifth princes’, and former lawmakers Park Chul-eon, who was called ‘6th prince’.

As members of Donggyo Winter, former lawmakers Jeong Dae-cheol and Han Kwang-ok, and Sangdo Dong-gye, Choi Hyung-woo and Kim Deok-ryong participated as funeral committee members.

Ewha Womans University Emeritus Professor Lee Eo-ryeong, who served as the first Minister of Culture in the Roh Tae-woo government, was also included in the list of funeral committee members.

The funeral ceremony for former President Roh will be held at the Olympic Park Peace Plaza in Songpa-gu, Seoul at 11 am on the 30th of this month.

After the funeral, the remains will be placed at Geomdansa Temple in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security said.
