Apple applies for patent for new technology for pressure sensor

According to “Patently Apple,” the US Patent and Trademark Office recently published several patents on Apple’s patented pressure-sensitive touch technology. This feature is very similar to the “3D Touch” technology that was discontinued on iPhones after the XR.

However, this patent is not limited to the iPhone. One of the patents refers to pressure sensors designed for smaller sizes like the Apple Watch and AirPods. While a normal pressure sensor occupies a considerable volume inside the product, Apple’s new “micro electromechanical fluid pressure sensor” fits compactly.

The patent mentions an “Apple Watch” with pressure-sensitive side buttons, showing the possibility of Apple replacing physical buttons with new buttons on pressure-sensitive sensors. Tech media “9to5Mac” points out that Apple is probably looking for ways to reduce the moving parts of the “Apple Watch” and make it more robust.

The second patent also shows a figure in which a pressure sensor is mounted on a smart band for “Apple Watch” that can detect blood pressure and pulse wave velocity. It’s rumored that Apple Watch Series 8 will have new health features, but this may be a new highlight.

Other Apple patents use the “micro electromechanical fluid pressure sensor” under the MacBook’s trackpad or iPhone’s display to “accurately detect small or gradual force changes.” It has been. In other words, it is thought that this technology will enable an experience similar to “3D Touch”.

“9to5Mac” points out that this will probably allow Apple to revive “3D Touch” with a technology that is cheaper and easier to install in multiple products. However, there are no rumors that 3D Touch will be back on the iPhone 14, etc., so we predict that these technologies may actually be available in the next few years.
