50 per cent complete Kovid vaccination in the state: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: More than half of the population in the state who need to be vaccinated with the Kovid vaccine has been fully vaccinated with the first and second dose vaccines, Health Minister Veena George has said. The minister said it was a great achievement to be able to provide so many people with complete vaccination and safety at a time when there is a huge fight against Kovid.

More than 94 percent were vaccinated with the first dose. This is much higher than the national average. At the national level, the first dose of vaccination is 77.37 per cent and the second dose is 33.99 per cent. The Minister said that the vaccination drive launched by the state has helped in achieving such speed.

94.58 per cent (2,52,62,175) of the population to be vaccinated received the first dose and 50.02 per cent (1,33,59,562) received the second dose. So far, a total of 3,86,21,737 doses of the vaccine have been given, including one and two doses. In Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Wayanad districts, almost 100 per cent people received the first dose of vaccine. Only a few people need to get the first dose of the vaccine.

Vaccination centers report that some of those who take the second dose of the vaccine are delayed. The second dose should be taken 84 days after the covi shield vaccine and 28 days after the cova vaccine. Some people do not reach the vaccination center after 84 days. Full effect can be obtained only by taking both doses of the vaccine. The minister said the second dose of the vaccine should be given on time.
