START, Mich (AP) – There are seven school districts in Michigan receiving electric buses under a program designed to boost clean air and alternative energy.
The buses will be on Thursday at the Capitol state in Lansing. They were partly purchased with funds from Volkswagen in settlement to overcome the Clean Air Act.
17 electric buses are being distributed under a state
Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy
program. They will replace diesel vehicles.
Officials say that electric buses reduce children's exposure to diesel fumes and reduce environmentally damaging emissions.
Michigan Cadet Transport Association developed the project. The buses will operate in Zeeland, Ann Arbor, Gaylord, Kalamazoo, Oxford, Roseville and Three Rivers.
