CTV and others reported on the 20th (local time) that eight teenage girls killed a homeless man with a knife in downtown Toronto, Canada.

The Toronto Police Department said in an interview that day that a homeless man (59) was stabbed to death by a weapon worn by teenage girls on the street in the center of the city around 12:30 in the morning the day before.

A total of eight people, three 13-year-olds and two 14-year-olds and two 16-year-olds, were charged with second degree murder.

Police said they met through social media and gathered at the center near the site at 10:30pm on the 18th.

At the time, the criminals went to the homeless man who was talking to another person and got into an argument with him, then he took a weapon he had beforehand and attacked him. The crime is said to have happened within 3 minutes.

The seriously injured homeless man was taken to hospital in an ambulance called by onlookers at the scene, but died soon after.

A police officer explained that they had no idea if the women and the homeless knew each other, and that they did not know why or how the argument happened.

However, the officer said the investigation is ongoing because he believes this case could be ‘swarming’, which refers to a type of crime where a number of people seek out and attack an innocent victim without any particular motive.

He added that the perpetrators did not appear to be members of a gang and that three of them had previous contact with the police.

They were caught and arrested by the police, who were promptly dispatched near the scene of the crime, and are said to be in possession of weapons other than those used in the crime.

Before the crime, they had had a similar fight with other people who were passing by, and this is also identified as a form of swimming, the police explained.
