On the 29th, the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Japan reached 84,000, breaking the record high for five consecutive days.

According to the local public broadcaster NHK, there were 84,934 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 across Japan as of 8 p.m. on the same day. In Tokyo, an additional 17,433 people were infected on the same day. There are 13,383 new confirmed cases in Osaka.

In Japan, the average number of new confirmed cases per day in the last week was 63,464, nearly doubling from the previous week (34,575).

On January 1 and 2 of this year alone, Japan had less than 600 confirmed cases per day. However, due to the spread of Omicron mutation, the number of infected people has increased rapidly, and we are in the sixth stage of spread.

In response to the spread of COVID-19 from the 27th, the Japanese government has applied key measures, which are emergency quarantine measures, to 34 metropolitan governments, including Tokyo and Osaka, among 47 metropolitan municipalities.
