The number of companies adopting a hybrid working approach has increased due to the impact of COVID-19. This suggests the need for an approach that helps employees stay engaged and connected wherever they work.

According to Microsoft, based on the results of a survey of 20,000 people in 11 countries, ‘Hybrid work is also a job. On the 26th, a new work trend indicator called ‘Hybrid Work Is Just Work’ was released. Are We Doing Things Wrong?’

According to this, there is a large gap in understanding and expectations between leaders and employees of companies that have adopted a hybrid working method. They differed on factors of organizational productivity, how to maintain autonomy with responsibility, the benefits of flexibility, and the role of the office.

While 87% of workers surveyed reported being productive, 85% of leaders said hybrid work shifts made it difficult to gauge employee productivity.

To bridge this gap, Microsoft said work should be seen as an experience rather than just a place, advising the need for an approach that helps employees stay engaged and connected wherever they work.

He also suggested that in order to support leaders in navigating new work realities, they should stop doubting productivity, embrace the need to re-establish employee bonds, and invest in training to grow and prevent employee turnover.

On the other hand, if more companies think that the difficulty of managing productivity and the absence of solidarity between employees continues through hybrid work, we asked if an offline system will be the type of work in the future.

Regarding this, a Microsoft official said, “According to the work trends index released by Microsoft in March last year, the need for a hybrid work environment has been maximized as the concept of ‘work’ or ‘workplace’ has fundamentally changed.”

He also argued that in order for an organization to prepare for such a situation, it should fundamentally revisit and rebuild the company’s operating model to maximize flexibility. In other words, Microsoft sees hybrid work based on flexibility as a trend in the current labor market rather than determining offline and online work methods.”
