Recently, the Gimpo parcel delivery agency owner, who was recently harassed by the KCTU’s parcel delivery union, made an extreme choice, and this time, a video of the delivery union leader assaulting a non-union member has been released and is controversial. It is known that certain companies even asked for a nap.

According to a delivery agency association on the 7th, an article was posted on the bulletin board of the Naver band ‘Delivery Driver’s Rights Search’, which is mainly used by the delivery union affiliated with the labor union the day before, saying, “If I join the union, can I assault the parcel delivery terminal (terminal)?” .

This was a question about the CCTV footage in the parcel sorting box, which is about 8 seconds long, which has been circulating among couriers under the title, ‘Assault on non-union members by the delivery union executive’.

In the video, believed to have been filmed in April 2019, a man wearing a red headband jumps onto a conveyor workbench and kicks the man in a courier uniform standing opposite him in the chest. The man on the other side who was kicked fell back more than 1m and bounced off the screen.

However, presumed union members made comments mocking the post. One member said, “In life, hitting and getting beaten is the world.”

The video is known as an incident that actually took place at a parcel sorting center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

In response to this, a courier industry official told Chosun.com, “At that time, the courier union was conducting a propaganda war at the terminal, and he assaulted a non-union driver who was protesting the noise.”

He continued, “Although it does not appear in the video, a non-union driver who was assaulted came from outside with a blunt weapon and tried to take revenge, and in the process, another courier union member was injured.”

He added, “The injured courier union member requested the non-union driver to join the courier union as a condition of a criminal agreement, and the victim of the assault in the video is now a courier union member,” he added.

Vice-Chairman A, who was identified as the perpetrator of the assault, said, “I am the vice-chairman, but please call the center of the courier union regarding that case. I can’t give you a personal answer,” he said.

Vice-Chairman A was also reported to have received 50,000 won each from agency owners at the meeting of the directors while leading the delivery strike. He said that if Vice President A participated in the assembly, he could not do the delivery service, so he had to use a proxy delivery driver (so-called ‘Yongcha’) to do the work for him.

Some argue that this tyranny of the courier union extends not only to agency owners and non-union members, but also to companies.

At a press conference on the 7th, the countermeasures committee for the overworked delivery workers led by the Federation of Trade Unions argued, “We requested Coupang to conduct special health checkups and to improve workplace lighting, but Coupang unilaterally abandoned the agreement.”

However, it has been confirmed that Coupang has already expanded the special health checkup and is increasing the lighting in the workplace.

In addition, as the fact that the Confederation of Trade Unions had asked for a nap time during work was revealed, it is also being pointed out that “Isn’t the union not willing to agree?”
