‘Stone Buddha’ Seung-hwan Oh (39, Samsung Lions) achieved another KBO League save record by building a monumental feat of being the oldest 40 saves. Coincidentally, the opponent Seunghwan Oh achieved the record for this time was the KIA Tigers.

Oh Seung-hwan recorded his 40th save of the season by adding one save in the 2021 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League away match against KIA held at the Gwangju-Kia Champions Field on the 13th.

Oh Seung-hwan went on the mound with one-run runners full in the bottom of the eighth inning, where the team led 5-3, and caught Yoo Min-sang with a fly shortstop and Kim Min-sik with a left fielder floating ball and put out the fire. In the ninth inning, he got two hits, but he did not concede and kept the team victory.

In addition, Seung-hwan Oh raised 40 saves this season and built a monumental feat of 40 saves, the oldest in KBO league history (39 years, 2 months and 28 days). Prior to Seung-hwan Oh, Seung-rak Son (former Nexen) recorded the oldest 40 saves at the age of 31 years, 6 months and 10 days.

Coincidentally, whenever Seunghwan Oh wrote a save-related record, KIA became a victim.

On September 18, 2007, Oh Seung-hwan achieved the smallest game ever saved (180 games) in the KIA match in Gwangju.

On August 12, 2011, in the Daegu game, Oh Seung-hwan made his 35th save of the season against KIA, reaching a personal 200 save level. At that time, Seunghwan Oh’s record was the third in KBO history, breaking the records of the youngest (29 years and 29 days) and the smallest (334 games).

Seunghwan Oh and KIA’s ironic fate did not end there. Oh Seung-hwan scored a total of 300 saves in the match against the Gwangju KIA on April 25th by scoring a goalless inning.

And KIA became the victim of Oh Seung-hwan’s oldest 40 save.

KIA, which has been sacrificed four times in Oh Seung-hwan’s historical record, has suffered the disgrace that has no choice but to be mentioned whenever related records are highlighted.
