Is India a good country for women to live in? The Women, Peace and Security Index, which was released the other day, points out that they can live without much trouble. The study was conducted by Georgetown University’s Institute for Women, Peace and Security and The Peace Research Institute in Oslo.

This list shows the best and worst countries for women in the world based on 2021-2022 figures. The Women, Peace and Security Index is based on women’s participation, access to justice and security in 170 countries. Accordingly, each country is assigned a national index score.

Do you know which country is best for working women according to the index? It is the Scandinavian country of Norway. Norway tops the list with a score of 0.922, followed by Afghanistan with a score of 0.278.

European countries are in the top five positions in the list of women-friendly countries. The fifth place is for Luxembourg (0.899), the fourth place is for Denmark (0.903) and the third place is for Iceland (0.907). Finland (0.909) is in second place.

Now let’s look at the countries that are not suitable for women to live in according to the index. It is also interesting to note that all the countries at the top of the list that can be described as anti-feminist are war-torn countries. Iraq (rank -166), Pakistan (167), Yemen (168), Syria (169) and Afghanistan (170) are the last countries.

India’s rank is not too proud either. We are the 148th most misogynistic country in the world. One in four women are in paid employment in India. That’s less than half the global average.

According to the Women, Peace and Security Index, 121 countries that were at the bottom of the last index have improved their status. Meanwhile, some countries are worse off than before. Afghanistan, Haiti, Namibia and Yemen are the countries that have gone backwards.

South Asian countries have fallen behind in the ranking of the index. This report is prepared on the basis of discrimination against women, unequal justice and domestic violence. Not only this, Covid-19 has also affected women significantly. The Women, Peace and Security Index also points out that women lost more jobs than men during this period.
