A magnitude 5.8 earthquake occurred in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan… no tsunami warning


[아시아경제 박병희 기자] The Japan Meteorological Agency said a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck at 0:02 am on the 2nd in Miyazaki Prefecture, Kyushu Island, Japan.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the seismic intensity (震度), which shows the relative strength of the shaking observed in various places due to this earthquake, was measured to be ‘around 5’.

Density 5 is the level where most people feel scared and want to hold on for support, and tableware or a book on a shelf falls.

In this earthquake off the coast of the Osumi Peninsula, the depth of the epicenter was measured to be 30 km.

Earthquakes were detected not only in Miyazaki City and other prefectures in the prefecture, but also in other neighboring prefectures.

No tsunami warning was issued. Police said there have been no reports of injuries yet.

Kyushu Electric Power said no abnormalities were found at the Sendai nuclear power station.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the earthquake occurred 27 km southeast of Kushima, Miyazaki Prefecture, and that the epicenter was 28.3 km deep.
