Due to the late heat, autumn mosquitoes are on the rise until October. Infectious diseases carried by mosquitoes include malaria, which occurs at home and abroad, and infectious diseases contracted abroad that are introduced to Korea through mosquito bites, rather than from domestic causes. These include yellow fever, dengue fever, chikungunya fever, West Ny fever, and Zika virus infection.

This infectious disease is mainly spread by mosquito bites that have sucked blood from patients. It is not spread through normal person-to-person contact. Rarely, there is the possibility of transferring blood such as a blood transfusion or organ transplant.

All infectious diseases have different symptoms. It presents mainly with fever, headache, muscle pain, arthralgia and conjunctivitis. In some cases, it is asymptomatic. In the case of infection, most diseases carried by mosquitoes imported from abroad have no cure, so symptomatic treatment is required. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are important for a cure.

Before traveling abroad, check the current status of infectious diseases carried by mosquitoes in the country of travel and, if necessary, vaccinate or take preventive medications. It is also good to prepare mosquito repellent and over the counter medicine. Avoid places where there are many mosquitoes, such as in grass or in the mountains, and wear bright colored long clothes for outdoor activities.
