A passenger’s shot as a plane lands; The incident occurred during the firing of insurgents in Myanmar

Naypyidaw: A passenger was shot while landing a plane in Myanmar. A passenger was injured in the cheek by a bullet that pierced the window of a Myanmar National Airlines plane. Myanmar’s military said the incident occurred during a shootout by insurgents near the airport.

The accident happened on Friday morning when a domestic flight from Myanmar’s capital Nay Pyi Taw landed in Loikai. There were 63 passengers on board. The bullet hit the aircraft at an altitude of about 3280 feet. The bullet pierced the window and lodged in the right cheek of the window seat passenger.

The seriously injured passenger is being treated at Loikaw People’s Hospital. Following the attack, security forces have increased security at the airport and in the area, the military administration said.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since the government of Aung San Suu Kyi was ousted in a military coup in February last year. It is estimated that more than 2,000 people have been killed and 15,000 people imprisoned in the insurgency between the rebels and the army.
