Kochi: A Malayalee expatriate who was hit by a private bus during a traffic jam in Thoppumpadi met a tragic end. Lawrence Varghese (61) died at the hospital in Edakochi Chaleparam. The accident took place near Toppumpadi Kochupalli in Kochi around 6:30 pm on Saturday.

After parking his bike on the side of the road, Lawrence was hit by a speeding bus while going to a nearby shop. A bus named ‘Shana’, operating on the Kakkanad-Fort Kochi route, was hit.

Lawrence, who was thrown by the impact of the thunder, was rushed to Karuvelipadi Government Hospital by the locals, but his condition was critical and he was shifted to Kalamasery Medical College. It is reported that the bus that caused the accident has caused many accidents before. Although the road is narrow, private buses speeding here happen every day. The death of the buses is also a great threat to the students who go to the nearby school.
