One of the chronic problems of modern people is ‘posture’. Including turtle neck and back bending, more and more people are suffering from ’round shoulders’ recently. ‘Round shoulders’ literally refers to a condition where both shoulders are rolled forward.

In this condition, severe pain can occur as the ligaments and muscles around the neck and shoulders become stiff. It can lead to headaches and cause great inconvenience in daily life. How did rounded shoulders that reduce the quality of life come about?

This is because the levator spinae muscles and the muscles around the shoulder blades have weakened due to excessive use of computers and smartphones. Stretching and manipulation movements of the hands in front of the body weaken the back muscles. As the back muscles weaken, the front muscles of the chest and abdomen shorten and become united. As a result, as the head and neck move forward, the overall shape of our body changes, from a turtle neck to a curved back and rounded shoulders.

There is another problem caused by poor posture. That’s ‘scapular motion disorder’. The shoulder blades at the top of the back are shaped like wings. It connects the torso and arms and serves to move the shoulders. If there is a problem with this exercise process, the scapula is not stable when moving the shoulder, and symptoms of slipping or shaking appear. As the shoulder joint progresses abnormally, the space between the shoulder joints narrows, and as a result, ‘rotator cuff tendon impingement syndrome’ or ‘rotator cuff tendon rupture’ can further develop, leading to shoulder joint arthrosis and the acromioclavicular joint.

In Case of scapular movement disorder, you can proceed with drug treatment, physical therapy, and injection treatment. Because it is a comprehensive disease, it cannot be solved with just one treatment. In addition to treatment, neuromuscular training, muscle coordination training, and efforts to strengthen the core muscles are also needed.

Also, to improve the turtle neck and backward bending that often accompanies scapular movement disorders, ‘thoracic kyphosis’, that is, to improve the bending of the thoracic vertebrae towards the back and normalize the head to a neutral position, the fact that the handling process must be performed side by side, be aware.

Just as important as treatment is maintaining correct posture. Even when working, make time to straighten your neck, back and hunched shoulders. We recommend that you regularly practice neutral posture and continue to stretch to increase shortened muscles.
