A Witcher 1 remake was confirmed to be in development with a full open world

Last month, CD Projekt Red announced that it was working on a remake of the first installment, The Witcher, with new Polish developer Fool’s Theory.

The Witcher series became well-known from Witcher 3 in open-world form, but in reality, Witcher 1 was a slightly different game in terms of genre, close to a linear action RPG.

Regarding this part, CD Project Red led the development direction through the quarterly report for the last quarter. According to the report, The Witcher Remake is clearly advertising itself as a story-driven single player ‘open world RPG’.

In 2007’s The Witcher 1, Geralt was on the level wandering in and out of Vizima, the capital of Temeria, so it seems that more free play will be possible in this open world remake.

Meanwhile, the recent Witcher 3 will get a new update on the upcoming December 14, and picture mode, quickcast mode, and Netflix drama content updates are announced.
