Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on the 19th that the UAE nuclear power plant operation corporation, a joint venture between the company and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Nuclear Power Corporation, has obtained a license to operate the 3rd Baccarat nuclear power plant from the UAE nuclear regulator on the 17th (local time).
As a result, the Baraka Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 is ready for full-fledged operation after refueling.
With the start of fuel loading, UAE nuclear power plant No. 3 is expected to start commercial operation after undergoing the remaining processes such as a step-by-step output increase test and performance assurance test.
KEPCO President Jeong Seung-il said, “After the start of commercial operation of the UAE nuclear power plant unit 2 in March, Unit 3 also achieved another goal of refueling. I will,” he said.
KEPCO won the UAE nuclear power plant project in December 2009 and has built four Korean-style nuclear power plants (APR1400) in the Baraka region near Abu Dhabi, UAE.
This is Korea’s first overseas nuclear power plant project.
