JTBC Newsroom – In a candid interview with JTBC’s ‘Newsroom’, actor Kim Nam-gil, renowned for his role in the Netflix series ‘Thief: The Sound of the Sword’, opened up about his perception of adulthood and his desire to embrace his inner child.
When asked about his thoughts on being an adult, Kim Nam-gil humbly admitted, “I don’t think I’ve fully grown up yet. The concept of being a ‘good adult’ still eludes me. It’s a journey of self-discovery, constantly finding that path. Deep down, I yearn to live like a carefree boy, running across green fields and playing like a child. I often act upon this desire. Mentally, I feel stuck at around 7 or 8 years old. I long for the innocence and purity of that age.”
Sharing his insights on the popular series ‘Thief: The Sound of the Sword’, Kim Nam-gil expressed his excitement about portraying the diverse characters in the backdrop of the 1920s independence movement. He further added, “The series explores various human groups, each with their distinct motivations – be it protecting their loved ones, pursuing personal goals, or fighting for the country’s independence. This multifaceted narrative felt refreshing. Action scenes involving a range of weapons, including long guns and pistols, were brilliantly executed.”
Not limiting himself to a particular genre, Kim Nam-gil revealed his inclination towards comedy and romantic roles too. “I aspire to bring versatility in terms of genres,” he stated enthusiastically.
In addition to his acting career, Kim Nam-gil remains actively involved in various public interest activities. Reflecting on his journey, he confessed, “Initially, I didn’t approach volunteering with much seriousness. However, upon joining charitable organizations and engaging with people in need outside my homeland, I discovered the true meaning behind it. Being able to contribute positively and give back to society became a driving force for me, inspired by the recognition received from influential figures. The realization that consistency is key dawned on me after dedicating nearly a decade to such endeavors. It’s my way of expressing gratitude for the immense support I have received.”
