Adoptive father who repeatedly assaulted and neglected 2-year-old adopted daughter… 22 years in prison for ‘abuse and murder’

A stepfather who killed his adopted two-year-old daughter by assaulting him with a fist and a shoehorn on the grounds that he kept crying, was sentenced to 22 years in prison in the first trial.

After the child who had been hit in the head was left without action for seven hours even though he lost consciousness, the court admitted that “there was intention to kill.”

Min Young-i was found in a baby box in Gwanak-gu, Seoul in 2018 and was adopted by the Seo couple in August of last year.

The adoptive parents, who already had four biological children, even ran a group home to protect abused children, so no one suspected it.

“Everyone has been so kind. The child is also very kind.”

However, from the 8th month of adoption, my adoptive father beat Min-young with a shoehorn and fist, saying, “I don’t listen and whine.”

On Mother’s Day on May 8, my adoptive father did not make carnations with his biological children, but slapped Min-young on the head with his palm, and when he collapsed, he shouted ‘Get up’ and hit him again.

My stepmother came to hear me, but all she said was ‘Stop it’.

And the couple took Min-young, who was droopy, to her mother-in-law’s house.

Even though the child’s face was severely swollen, the mother put a mask on it so that she could not see it and laid her down as soon as she arrived.

Even after leaving the child, only the rest of the family ate out, and it was left unattended for 7 hours before returning home and taking him to the hospital.

Min-young passed away in July of severe brain damage.

The court sentenced his adoptive father Seo to 22 years in prison and his adoptive mother Choi to six years in prison.

“I hit a small child with a moment’s anger even though I knew that hitting a child hard would kill me, and after two or three hours after Min-young vomited, there was no reaction and no action was taken,” he said. “He judged.

In the wake of the case of Jung In last year, the ‘Child Abuse and Murder’, which increased the sentence for general murder, was applied.

NGOs argued that child abuse offenders should also disclose their identities.

“I’m also a mother, so I’m stressed. I get upset every time I don’t listen and make a lot of noise. That can’t be an excuse for beating a child.”
