AfD on par with SPD in poll – Union remains the strongest force

In a new survey, the AfD comes to 18 percent – and is catching up with the SPD. The Union remains the strongest force.

According to a new survey, the AfD has drawn level with the SPD, making it the second strongest political force in Germany together with the Social Democrats. In the new ARD “Germany trend” the AfD gains two percentage points and would be elected by 18 percent of those entitled to vote if the general election were on Sunday.

In the survey, the SPD lost one percentage point to 18 percent compared to the survey conducted by Infratest Dimap at the beginning of May. The Union is clearly the strongest force with 29 percent (-1). The Greens lose a point and come to 15 percent, the weakest value since September 2021. The FDP remains at 7 percent. The left missed the five percent hurdle with 4 percent (-1).

According to ARD, this is the best value for the AfD in the Sunday question in the “Deutschlandtrend”. Only in September had the party reached this level. For two-thirds of AfD supporters, immigration plays a major role when asked about the three most important issues. 32 percent of AfD supporters say they want to vote for the party out of conviction, 67 percent out of disappointment with the other parties.
