After the assault at the Oscars… Will Smith rejects ‘exit request’

It has been revealed that American Hollywood actor Will Smith was asked to leave the house after he allegedly assaulted him at the Academy Awards ceremony, but he refused.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which hosts the Oscars, issued a statement on the 30th local time and disclosed the situation at the time, AP News reported.

Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock for making a joke about his alopecia-related wife, Jada Pinkett, at the awards ceremony on the 27th.

At the time, Smith was sitting in the front row of the awards ceremony, and after the assault, he continued to sit there and won the Best Actor award.

It has been pointed out in the Hollywood film industry that the Academy should have expelled Smith immediately after the assault.

“Things developed in a way we didn’t expect,” the Academy said in a statement.

The Academy Board of Directors held a meeting today and also initiated disciplinary proceedings against Smith.

The agency said, “Smith’s assault was a shocking incident that was witnessed by the attendees and was broadcast live on TV.

The level of disciplinary action is expected to be decided by the board of directors on the 18th of next month.

Smith will be given an opportunity to respond in writing prior to disciplinary action, and if the academy stipulates against abuse, harassment, and discrimination as a member code of conduct, violations may result in disciplinary action such as suspension or expulsion from membership, cancellation of an Oscar, or loss of nominations. .

The Academy has fired producer Harvey Weinstein, actor Bill Cosby, and film director Roman Polanski, all of whom were involved in a past ‘Me Too’ scandal.

However, it is speculated that even if the Academy disciplines Smith, it will not deprive him of the Best Actor award given past cases.

The Academy has never voided an Oscar award for an expelled member.

The criticism of Smith in the Hollywood film industry continued today.

Wanda Sykes, co-host at the Oscars, said: “I’m still in shock because of that incident. It was absurd to sit back and enjoy the awards ceremony after Smith hit the rock.”

Meanwhile, Rock, who was slapped by Smith, performed in Boston for the first time since the assault.

The Academy apologized to Rock in a statement today.
