After the victory, Dhanush also demanded tax exemption for the luxury vehicle

Chennai: Dhanush has filed a petition in the court seeking tax relief for a luxury car imported from abroad after actor Vijay. The same judge who had earlier leveled harsh criticism against actor Vijay in a similar case, S.M. Subramaniam is also considering Dhanush’s case. The Madras High Court is likely to rule on the case today or tomorrow.

It is reported that Dhanush’s lawyer was not present when the case was called yesterday. With this, the case was adjourned for judgment. Dhanush had approached the court in 2015 after the Regional Transport Officer (NTO) asked the Commercial Tax Department (NTO) to complete the registration process of the car imported from abroad.

The Commercial Tax Department had demanded payment of Rs 60.66 lakh in tax to get the NOC. After filing the writ petition, Dhanush was asked to pay 50 per cent of the tax amount within two weeks. Later, the deadline was extended and Dhanush paid Rs 30.33 lakh. Justice M then proceeded to complete the registration process of the vehicle. Duraiswamy had instructed the RTO.
