Airborne Service, ‘Lee Seong-yun’s indictment leak’ confiscation search and ’empty-handed’ withdrawal

On the 26th, the High Public Prosecutor’s Office (Criminal Investigation Agency) launched a search and seizure operation at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office in connection with the suspicion of ‘Lee Seong-yoon of Seoul High Prosecutor’s leak’, but withdrew ’empty-handed’ after about 8 hours.

The Airlift Service sent about 10 prosecutors and investigators to the Information and Communication Division of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office around 10 am on the same day to search and confiscate the server for about 7 hours and 40 minutes.

It is known that the Airborne Service stopped the procedure at evening time because it did not receive a separate warrant for the night execution of the seizure and search. Accordingly, it is expected that an additional search and seizure will be conducted next week.

On this day, it is said that the Ministry of Airborne Affairs checked the internal network messengers and emails of the investigation team of the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office, which indicted the high prosecutor in May. The targets of the search and seizure included former Suwon High Prosecutors’ Office Chief Oh In-seo and former Suwon Prosecutor’s Office 2nd Deputy Chief Prosecutor Song Kang, who led the investigation and prosecution of Senior Prosecutor Lee Seong-yoon.

The Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office’s investigation team indicted Lee, who was the head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, on charges of exerting external pressure to stop the investigation into the illegal withdrawal of Kim Hak-eui, a former vice-minister, when he was the head of the anti-corruption force department of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office. However, before the indictment was delivered to the chief prosecutor, some media reported the contents of the indictment, which sparked controversy over the leak of the indictment. The Ministry of Public Safety and Security has delayed the investigation, saying that it will wait for the results of the prosecution’s fact-finding after filing the case of the alleged leak of the indictment of the high prosecutor’s office under the accusation of civic activism by a civic group at the time.
