‘Alien + Human’ Director Choi Dong-hoon “Imagine as a child, what if it was made into a movie?”

A guard (Kim Woo-bin), who currently lives and manages an alien prisoner, faces a crisis due to the prisoner’s sudden attempt to escape. Mun Do-seok (So Ji-sub), a homicide detective, is chased by aliens without even knowing English.

In 1390, at the end of the Goryeo dynasty, Muruk (Ryu Jun-yeol), a master swordsman, meets Ian (Kim Tae-ri), a widower who shoots a pistol and thunder while on a journey to claim a new sword with a bounty. Heukseol (Yum Jeong-ah) and Cheong-woon (Jo Woo-jin), who sell their own weapons, and Jajang (Kim Ui-seong) who hide their face with a mask also join the story.

The two axes of the film are sci-fi action featuring robots, spaceships, and aliens, and the battle for new swords between the swordsman, wife, and sages. As the characters’ stories are revealed one by one, two stories that seem to have no connection are expected to meet.

Regarding the setting of Goryeo as a historical background, he explained, “Maybe it was the last era in which the Taoist lived. I wanted to express the clothes and spaces of Goryeo.”

‘Alien + Human’ was filmed for 387 days, including the second part. This is the longest period in Korean film history. Director Choi said, “Parts 1 and 2 are adventure dramas, but there are some emotional differences.

Director Choi has mobilized more than 10 million viewers in succession with ‘The Thieves’ (2012) and ‘Assassination’ (2015). The new work after 7 years seems closer to the fantasy action ‘Jeon Woo-chi’ (2009) with a Joseon background that employs Kang Dong-won rather than his caper movie. Director Choi said, “‘Assassination’ was a realistic film. I wanted to do the complete opposite.”
