Alpha Tauri Honda F1 “The continuation of Yuki Tsunoda and Guthrie in 2022 is the right move”[F1-Gate .com]

Jody Egginton, technical director of AlphaTauri Honda F1, believes the decision to continue Pierre Guthrie and Yuki Tsunoda in 2022, when significant regulation is introduced, is the right move.

In 2022 the F1 car was radically changed and the AlphaTauri Honda F1 decided to support the transition by maintaining the current driver lineup.

Pierre Guthrie has had a brilliant season this season, regularly making it into the top 10 and scoring 92 points. Rookie Yuki Tsunoda is struggling compared to Guthrie, but in recent races he has shown a performance to advance to qualifying Q3 and has scored 20 points.

Yuki Tsunoda is aiming for self-critical improvement, although there is a mitigation factor that many F1 tracks have never raced this season, but recently to compete at a higher level in F1. Admits that it needs to be “physically improved”.

Jody Egginton feels that the AlphaTauri Honda F1 is already on a positive track overall and says it’s not a bad thing from their point of view to continue the two drivers for another year.

“Many people say it’s good to have driver continuity when working on a new ruleset,” Jody Egginton told Motorsport-Total.

“Obviously we’ve known Pierre for a long time. He believes in us and we also believe in him. Given that new rules are always risk-related, continue with the driver. Knowing that you have sex is very positive. In a way, we are traveling as a team. “

“We are a young team and we have a lot of experience. Putting Pierre next year means one less variable, next year we have a lot of variables such as machines. That’s great.”

“At that time, we will know where we are standing. We have a philosophy and we are developing machines in a particular way. We hope it helps us move forward.”

“Everyone already understands that we are on a reasonable path as a team and hopes we can continue in the same way.”

This season, AlphaTauri Honda F1 has fought against Alpine for 5th place in the Constructors’ Championship, but in the previous F1 Qatar GP that reached the same point, Fernando Alonso was 3rd on the podium and Esteban Ocon was 5th. Alonso made a leap forward, and the difference widened to 25 points in the remaining two races.
