Amit Shah calls emergency meeting of ministers

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called an emergency meeting of ministers in the wake of the country’s severe energy crisis. A meeting of ministers and officials in charge of the coal and energy ministries was convened. State representatives also attended the meeting.

The country is currently facing a severe energy crisis due to the coal shortage. The Center has taken immediate steps to address the problem of thermal power plants in many states. UP, Punjab and Rajasthan have announced power cuts as power shortages worsen. Power Minister Satyendra Jain has said that only two or three days’ worth of coal is left in Delhi’s thermal power plants.

At present, only 55 per cent of the country’s electricity is generated. About 70 per cent of the country’s electricity generation depends on coal. There are 135 coal-fired power plants in the country. As of Thursday, there was a severe shortage of coal at 110 plants.

Union Energy Minister RK Singh had yesterday said that reports of coal shortage in the country were false. The minister was responding to reports of a possible power crisis in more than six states, including Delhi. ‘We have enough power. Electricity supply is smooth throughout the country. Who needs electricity? If they give me an application, they will get electricity, ”the minister said.
